The best way to increase this overlap between the site's content and audience's needs is to specifically analyze the goals--the primary and secondary objectives. Focusing on an immediate goal, such as promoting a particular product or service, will provide the designer with a lead--a starting point for organizing the design and layout of the web site. If, for instance, the designer decides the most important aspect of a college web site is to highlight student life (the immediate goal), then she can organize the site around that goal. The web site design would then include information on student organizations, student services, and student athletics.

Academic Resources Web Site

The purpose of the Academic Resources web site is to distribute accurate information about academic resources at Moravian College and to facilitate and promote the use of these resources by students, faculty, and staff. (3.10) The site includes information about academic resources such as the music library, media center, and tutoring services.

The Academic Resources web site is not intended for an outside group. Although the audience consists of three subgroups, each has the same need: to acquire information on the availability and use of Moravian's academic resources. Since the entire college is connected via a network, it is assumed that the audience is familiar with the web. The site will be designed for experienced rather than novice users and will emphasize the content rather than the graphics.
