Although both pages shown are later versions of the
ones tested, Edmund's site, which is almost all text, was found
to be more usable than graphically dominant sites such as Disney.

Jarred M. Spool selected users who were familiar with a web browser,
sat them down in front of a site, and watched them try to answer
four types of questions: simple fact, comparison of facts, judgement,
and comparison of judgement. Users had to hunt through the site
to find the answer, even if they already knew it. Spool wanted to
see how users searched for information in order to learn what factors
of the site helped or hindered them.

Spool found that searching for information on the web is an intensely
frustrating experience. Throughout his study he was amazed by the
time and effort it took users to answer simple questions. Repeatedly
users gave up without ever finding what they were looking for.
